This site has been has been set up as part of the preparations for the celebration of Hinckley Bowling Club’s centenary in 2008. It is still in embryonic form but over the next few months it is intended to inform the readers about the club, its history, its activities and achievements with the intention of promoting the club and the sport of flat green bowls in the local area.
The club aims to provide a platform for players to compete at club, county or international level whilst providing facilities for newcomers and bowlers of all standards to enjoy a friendly game of bowls with like-minded club members and against other local clubs. The clubhouse is well appointed and has a great social atmosphere where members can enjoy a drink and a chat after a session on the green. In the closed season regular social activities are organised to keep members in touch and to provide a meeting place for local residents many of whom join as associate members. Hinckley Spa Lane Ladies Club is celebrating its 25th anniversary also in 2008 and though it retains its separate identity it enjoys all the facilities of the site. We can borrow players from each other when necessary to help fulfil our fixtures, have a number of mixed matches together during the season and the ladies are active on the social side.
The outdoor bowling season runs from early April to the first week in October and membership is currently £67 p.a (£54 aged 65 or over) but if you are a new bowler buying your kit for the first time we offer free membership for the first season. We promote this by having two open Sundays in April and May when prospective new bowlers can learn how it’s done, enjoy our facilities, and perhaps take up a new sport and social activities.

What makes this year so special for the President? Well we have the ‘A’, ‘C’ and the ‘D’ teams all playing in the first division of the Hinckley and District Triples League with the ‘B’ team close on their heels, pushing to win division two. There will continue to be a close watch kept on Hinckley Bowling Club by the other Clubs in the area as we have always been known as a very competitive outfit. 2007 should be a very good year for our Club.
Our Ladies will also be celebrating their 25th Anniversary in 2008. I wish them well.
Hinckley Bowling Club will continue to promote new bowlers during the current season with two Open Mornings. The first is on Sunday 22nd April and the second is on Sunday 6th May. All new bowlers are offered free membership for the first year together with coaching sessions throughout the season.
Our Club also enjoys a thriving social calendar throughout the winter months giving a full year of interest at the Club for our members.
As the 2007 season approaches I would like to reflect on the County and National competitions. I hope for the very best of luck to our competitive bowlers, lets see if we can achieve success in all competitions. I also ask our experienced bowlers to welcome and befriend our newer members and that they will be generous with their advice and encouragement throughout the season.
The President,
P. C. Utting
